Problem 6/121 + Parallel Axis Theorem

I just worked out Problem 6/121 in review for Exam 3, and I'm not positive I fully understand the parallel axis theorem. In the PAT equation Ia = Ib + m(d)^2, is "d" the distance between the "a" and "b"? My second question is, do we need to memorize any inertia equations for the exam?

Thanks

Take a look at page 665 of the text (in Appendix B) where the authors talk about the PAT.

Please note that in your statement of the PAT, "b" must be the center of mass G of the body. And, as you state, d is the distance then between G and "a'.

To answer your other question, you will be given either the equation for the mass moment of inertia about the center of mass (on the equation page) or will be given a radius of gyration in the statement of the problem.
