Homework Hint: Problem 3/269

Suggestions:
  • For this problem, you will need to use three systems: A alone, B alone and A&B together.
  • From system A, you can find v_Ay2 (conservation of linear momentum in y-direction).
  • From system B, you can find v_By2 (conservation of linear momentum in y-direction).
  • From system A&B, you can say that linear momentum is conserved in the x-direction. This relates v_Ax2 and v_Bx2.
  • The coefficient of restitution equation gives you a second relationship between v_Ax2 and v_Bx2.
  • Solve the equations from the preceding two bullet items for the unknowns of v_Ax2 and v_Bx2.
