Problem 5/9

I have the equations a_p = alpha x r_p/o - w^2 * r_p/o and a_t = r * alpha = a dot e_t to help me with this problem. Through the second equation I can find the correct value for alpha, but I'm having trouble getting the magnitude and direction given in the solution...should I just use the right hand rule or should this be validated by my calculations?
